Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to do business with customers who are actually 25 years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. But, depending on your circumstances, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than 25 years, try checking in with your insurance provider to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?
Certainly! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we offer an additional camping tent with all of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground. This may be more convenient for both you and also your young children.
How many people can your camping trucks accommodate?
The roof top tent camping trucks sleep three individuals maximum, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an additional camping tent, too. With this, we are able to fit about five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Yes, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us beforehand if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a travel guide or even a map with the nicest places to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to check out and go camping on Kauai.
Best Locations For Camping On Kauai & Information About Camping Permits
Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We will give you a list of the best locations to check out and to camp in. Please note that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only go to official camping grounds? If so, how much is the charge?
No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You should only camp in specified areas with secured camping permits. The fee is about $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private campsites may be a bit more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you will have total access to amenities, including showers, bathrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is definitely a better to get your Kauai camping license before your journey. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you choose to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You may also get them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to receive your permits. You might obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them on the spot.
